NEW HAVEN CELEBRATES NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

NEW HAVEN- New Haven will celebrate National Night Out along with thousands of other cities and communities nationwide in an effort to increase crime prevention, awareness and education and unite neighborhoods against violence. This year marks the 24th anniversary of the National Night Out against violence. Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. will hold a community meeting following the district management meeting at the Dwight school at 7:30 on Tuesday. There will be two at least other National Night Out events organized by the City, Police Department and neighborhood block watches that evening including:
Where: Sunset Ridge 341 Smith Avenue, New Haven
When: Tuesday August 7 from 5-10pm
Who: Chief Francisco Ortiz and Chief Administrative Officer Robert Smuts
What: Activities for children and families as well as food and entertainment for all
Where: Orchard Street between Henry and Goffe Street
When: Tuesday August 7 from 5-10pm
Who: Officer Joe Avery and Orchard Street Block Watch
What: Neighborhood block party with food and entertainment for all
Where: Dwight School
When: Tuesday August 7 6:30-7:30 pm District Management Meeting 7:30-8:30 pm Mayor’s Community Meeting to discuss public safety as well as City and Police initiatives
Who: Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. and Assistant Chief Herman Badger
What: The Mayor’s Community Meeting is meant to engage the community in conversations about public safety as well as City and Police initiatives
